My name is Andrés Vera Martínez. To hear a story about my name and how to pronounce it go here.

I’m an illustrator and educator. My artistic focus is on illustrating and writing graphic novels for middle school and young adult readers.

Born in Lamesa, Texas, raised in Austin, I now live in New England with my wife, two children and our dog.

My best known work is the collaboration with my wife on the graphic memoir, LIttle White Duck: A Childhood in China. I also have illustrated Neal Shusterman’s YA graphic novel, Courage to Dream: Tales of in the Holocaust.

Soon to be release is the middle grade graphic novel series with Jorge Aguirre, Monster Locker and my adaptation of Esperanza Rising. I will also illustrate Marie Alohalani Brown’s Hawaiian Myths, Gods, and Heroes.

I have worked with publishers Penguin Random House, Scholastic Graphix, McMillian, Lerner Books, and Simon and Schuster

My work has been recognized by the New York Times, School Library Journal, The Horn Book, NPR, the Society of Illustrators, Junior Library Guild, and Slate Cartoonist Studio.
